The Yacht
SV Illusion is a 75-foot classic styled staysail schooner built entirely from mahogany in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1976; she is a big comfortable yacht with lots of space.
The original owner used the yacht to successfully search for sunken wrecks.
Illusion was involved with the discovery of the “Atocha,” a famous Spanish wreck that turned out to have one of the largest hoards of treasure ever found; there is a museum in Key West, Florida dedicated to this find.

There are six cabins in all so everyone can have their own cabin. For couples we have four double berthed cabins available. Illusion is able to accommodate up to ten people, but we have found that a good mix of six to eight people works better.
Illusion has a large Bauer dive compressor, which can fill a dive tank in six minutes; we also have lots of dive equipment.
Safety equipment includes an eight-man life raft, a Jon Buoy man overboard retrieval system, EPIRB, SSB and VHF radios, fire extinguishers in every cabin, there is a harness and lifejacket for each crew member. We also carry a very extensive medical kit.

Norman is the co-owner and captain of SV Illusion. He’s from Liverpool in England and yes, he does have the Scouse ascerbic sense of humour and the Liverpool FC football shirt.
He is a certified RYA Ocean Yacht Master and holds a RYA survival at sea certificate, an advanced first aid certificate and a firefighting at sea certificate.
Norman has been sailing in the Caribbean for the past six years and has visited most of the islands.
He has made two Atlantic crossings and lots of deliveries, logging over 100,000 nautical miles. He is also a PADI Rescue Diver. Apart from the sailing and navigating, he also looks after the maintenance of the yacht and takes his turn at the cooking.

Alison is Norman's partner, first mate, hostess, chief cook and bottle washer, and a PADI certified diver.
Ali has been sailing with Norman since May 2008 when she left London for a month’s holiday on board Illusion - and enjoyed herself so much that it became a permanent move!
As first mate Ali will 'show you the ropes' on Illusion. She also shares the cooking responsibilities with Norman and will do her utmost to ensure that you enjoy yourself during your time onboard Illusion.
